Trains

Essex has an extensive rail network, with most services currently operated by either Greater Anglia or c2c. Some areas of West Essex are covered by Transport for London. There are frequent services into London from all over Essex as well as to parts of other counties including Suffolk, Norfolk and Hertfordshire.

  • Buying a railcard can significantly reduce the cost of travelling by train, particularly off peak or at weekends.
  • When buying a ticket you may also want to ask for PLUSBUS to be added to your ticket, which gives you bus and tram travel to and from the rail station and around the whole urban area or town that's at the start and/or end of your train journey.

  • Network Rail launched a campaign in 2015 about safety for dog walking near level crossings.  Watch the video on Youtube.
