B1008 Broomfield Road/Patching Hall Lane, Chelmsford


About the schemeBroomfield Road/Patching Hall Lane junction

Works to improve the B1008 Broomfield Road/Patching Hall Lane junction situated in Broomfield, Chelmsford were completed winter 2016.  

The scheme was part of a section 106 planning condition granted by Chelmsford City Council (application no. 10/00869/FUL), for the Persimmon Homes Saxon Gate Development situated on land east of Patching Hall Lane. 

Works are designed to increase the capacity of the B1008 at the junction by adding vehicle capacity, improving traffic flow. 


Works included:

  • Constructing an additional lane northbound approaching the Patching Hall Lane junction traffic lights (from Chelmsford City).  This new lane is a left turn only into Patching Hall Lane.
  • Upgrading the existing traffic island and traffic signals at the Broomfield Road/Patching Hall Lane junction
  • Traffic signals updated to a new Puffin Crossing on Broomfield Road.
  • Street lighting upgraded along with footway and carriageway resurfacing works
