Frating Roundabout
Weeley Roundabout
The A133 is the key route providing access from Colchester to the seaside resort of Clacton–on–Sea, and allowing access from the district of Tendring into Colchester. Essex County Council and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership have made £3.25m available to fund improvements. These are designed to support economic growth and provide safety improvements to the route, they will also increase journey time reliability through highway capacity improvements for motorists and improved passenger transport facilities.
Improvements include:
Main construction works at Weeley and Frating Roundabouts started 25 November 2019 and will be undertaken in a phased approach. The works are due to be complete in Spring 2020.
Jacksons Civil Engineering have been appointed as a contractor responsible for carrying out these works and will be carrying out surveys and preparing their site set up ready for construction works to begin.
We appreciate that this is a traffic sensitive site and the works will be planned to minimise inconvenience to the area while allowing effective working, however we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
Please note that details may be subject to change if the works are hindered by poor weather conditions, or if unexpected issues arise.
Throughout the various phases of the scheme temporary traffic management will be necessary and lane restrictions will be in place to support the works.
Overnight closures may be required at different stages and locations along the route however these will be limited and advertised in advance on site signage as well as this webpage. Residents and businesses directly affected by the works will be contacted separately.
While efforts will be made to keep traffic congestion to a minimum throughout these improvements, it is recognised that works will be undertaken in traffic sensitive areas and normal traffic flows will be disrupted. We would encourage all drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and observe all traffic management and signage in place.
