Proposed diversion route during temporary closure of North Lane

About the scheme

Marks Tey Station Bridge is located to the east of Marks Tey Station and carries North Lane over the railway line.  The bridge is owned and maintained by Network Rail.

We propose to install safety barriers, known as a vehicle restraint system (VRS), to all four points of the bridge.  The purpose of this system is to reduce the likelihood of a vehicle leaving the carriageway at the bridge/embankment.

The works

Work to install safety barriers at Marks Tey Station Bridge started in January 2020 as planned however, due to the Coronvirus outbreak works were temporarily postponed in April 2020.

Following careful review, the decision has been made to recommence works on Monday 22 June 2020. This will require a full closure of the bridge on North Lane while these works take place.

Advance warning notices will be in place and a signed vehicle diversion during the road closure. We urge all drivers to observe the traffic management and signage in place during the works and take additional care and drive cautiously through the area. In particular, please be aware that vehicles, including long vehicles travelling to and from businesses located on North Lane (north of Marks Tey Station Bridge), will have no alternative but to follow the diversion route during closures.

Pedestrian access will be maintained over the bridge at all times.

The works are anticipated for completion in December 2020.  Please note that arrangements can sometimes be subject to change at short notice during unsuitable weather conditions or if unexpected issues arise.

Clearway/No parking restriction – North Lane

A temporary clearway/no parking restriction will be introduced on North Lane from the Station Bridge to Marks Tey Bridge that crosses Roman River to support the installation of the VRS system. This restriction is in place to ensure access to the site is maintained at all times as well as providing sufficient space for vehicles to turn around.

Warning notices will clearly identify the sections of road and periods when parking enforcement is effective.  No parking cones and signage will be in place so please refrain from parking vehicles in these areas when the Clearway/No Parking is in operation.

We regret any inconvenience caused however it is essential we enforce a Clearway to ensure the road remains clear without obstructions.

Further information

Please note arrangements can sometimes be subject to change at short notice due to unsuitable weather conditions or if unexpected issues arise.  The latest information will be reflected on site signage and this webpage.  Local residents, businesses and the parish council will be kept informed as details become available.

Works are subject to the necessary approvals being in place with Network Rail.
