Mundon Wash Bridge carries Mundon Road over the Mundon Wash waterway in Mundon, Maldon.
The bridge dates back to the 1940s and consists of three sections, two reinforced concrete box structures and a concrete pipe that run under the carriageway. An assessment of the structure has found the structure to be in a weak condition and needs to be replaced.
A full closure of the road at Mundon Wash Bridge is now in place to allow the existing structure to be removed and replaced with a combination of two precast concrete box sections which will be placed side by side, along with headwalls and wingwalls that comply with national standards.
Mundon Road was closed at the bridge on Tuesday 23 April 2019 to allow construction work to begin.
We anticipate the road will reopen on Sunday 22 December 2019 following resurfacing of the carriageway. Additional works will be required in early 2020 to complete the project. Activities will include the completion of safety fencing and reinstatement of the adjacent land. We anticipate that these works can be carried out with the support of temporary traffic lights, however details will be confirmed nearer the time.
Thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation while we undertake these necessary works.
The work programme may be subject to change if works are affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.
The latest information and updates about these works, including changes to traffic management will be updated to this webpage and reflected on site signage.
