About the scheme

Arrangements have been made to renew the traffic signals at B1389 Newland Street / B1018 Collingwood Road / Maldon Road, Witham.

The works

Works are due to start on Monday 13 January 2020 to install the traffic signal equipment including underground cable ducts where required and new extra low voltage equipment which helps reduce the carbon footprint produced by the traffic signals. The work is anticipated to take approximately 4 weeks to complete and working hours are 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

For the safety of the workforce and public, carriageway lanes may need to be closed during working hours and two-way traffic lights will be in place to support any lane closures required.  Please be assured efforts will be made to keep traffic flowing through the area and traffic management will be lifted when safe to do so.

What is involved and how it may affect you

It will be necessary to close both Collingwood Road and Maldon Road at the junction of Newland Street to vehicles for the duration of the works. Access to properties will be maintained at all times via the diversion route.

The reason for the closure of Collingwood Road and Maldon Road is to reduce the time taken to complete the works and to keep congestion to a minimum.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and for safety, a temporary controlled pedestrian crossing will be installed across Newland Street.

It may be necessary for overnight closure on Newland Street to install cable ducts. Provisional dates for the closure are Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 January. The proposed closure will be from Collingwood Road to Maldon Road. Maldon road will reopen during the closure on Newland Street as it is part of the diversion route but Collingwood Road will be remain closed at the junction. Overnight working hours are 9pm to 5am. Following each shift Newland Street will be reopened to all traffic and the closure on Maldon Road will be reinstated.

To view details regarding the proposed diversion routes please refer to the information in the Document section below.
