Reconstruction of Fish and Eels Bridge / Dobbs Weir Road

Reconstruction of the Fish and Eels Bridge which carries Dobbs Weir Road over the River Lee Navigation between Hoddesdon and Nazeing/Harlow has been completed.  Works first began in summer 2015 after it had been identified as a weak structure and required strengthening.

Works included demolition of the road deck; installation of concrete support piles; cutting down of the masonry abutments and installation of a new road deck and separate footbridge.  Following the reopening of the bridge on 29 February 2016, further works were undertaken which included improvements to drainage, installation of new traffic signals and land remediation.
