11 November 2020 Press Release

Colchester: Ipswich Road (north) reconstruction brought forward due to lockdown

Further progress is being made to the final stages of the Ipswich Road roundabout works and traffic delays in the New Year will be reduced as Essex Highways complete carriageway construction of Ipswich Road (north) earlier than planned.

Much of the work has already been finished with the main Harwich Road to Ipswich Road completed some weeks ago. The hold up to the final work on the roundabout itself came after a major safety issue was identified with the bridge over the railway line. Cracks were found and are currently being methodically investigated before the project is finished.

However, while works to the bridge are ongoing, engineers will take advantage of the reduced traffic during lockdown to bring forward the carriageway reconstruction works, closing one lane for two weeks starting on the 15th November and finishing before the planned end of the lockdown on 2nd December.

The will remove the need to complete these works at the end of the programme when Ipswich Road roundabout is finalised after the bridge works completed.
