Thistley Green Bridge, Felsted Road, Felsted

[FEATURED_NEWS]

About the scheme

Thistley Green Bridge is a circular brick arch structure on Felsted Road which is currently in a weak condition and in need of strengthening.  The bridge carries excess water from the River Ter and local farmland in times of flooding.

The works

Arrangements have been made to commence strengthening works from 14 October at Thistley Green Bridge.  This will involve lining the current circular brick arch with a reinforced concrete pipe to be inserted into the existing bridge.

We anticipate the works will be completed in early December 2019, subject to weather being suitable and no unexpected issues arising.

What is involved and how it may affect you

These works will require a full temporary closure of the road to all vehicles during the construction period from a point approximately 115m southeast of its junction with Hollow Road for a distance of approximately 100m in a southeasterly direction.

A signed diversion will be in place via Felsted Road, School Lane, Dumney Lane, Main Road, Moulsham Hall Lane, Great Leighs Bypass Roundabout, Bartholomew Green Road, Crix Green Road, Frenches Green Road, Bannister Green, Burnstie Road, Cock Green Road, Causeway End Road and vice versa.

The closure will safeguard members of the public and the workforce during the construction period as operatives will be working in the watercourse adjacent to and beneath the bridge. This will also provide the space needed to allow heavy plant and equipment to lift concrete pipe sections down onto the riverbed.

Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be permitted access by the onsite team throughout the majority of the works, however please note this will not be possible when lifting operations are in progress. These are currently planned for week commencing 28 October and are expected to take approximately four days.

A local pedestrian diversion route will be available for Public Rights of Way (PRoW 15_94) footpath access, to the northwest side of the bridge.

We endeavour to provide the latest information about the scheme, including any changes to the programme or traffic management as information becomes available.
