A decision has been taken to suspend the Chelmer Valley Park and Ride service from Saturday 30 January due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

The suspension of the service is in response to strict government guidance urging people to stay in their homes and only travel when absolutely necessary to prevent the spread of Coronavirus as well dramatically reduced numbers of people using the service.

The service will remain closed until further notice.

Beat the traffic with stress free travel, affordable, easy to park, toilet facilities and help on help on hand if needed. By using our service you’re creating a better environment for everyone who lives, works, shops and goes to school in Chelmsford and more convenient than parking in the town centre.

Here you can find timetable information, details of fares and the route for the Sandon Park and Ride. You can also download a map of the site with directions from the map section below.

Park and Ride Routes

Chelmsford Park and Ride Routes. There is a Sandon to Chelmer Valley route that stops a Mildmay Car Park, Victoria Road South, Chelmsford Railway Station, Anglia Ruskin University and then arrives at Chelmer Valley Park and Ride. The journey from Chelmer Valley to Sandon is via Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford Railway Station, Duke Street Careers Office, New London Road Reed Agency, Job Centre, Park and then arrives at Sandon. There is also a Sandon only service that goes from Sandon to Mildmay Car Park, Victoria Road South, Duke Street Careers Office, New London Road Reed Agency, Job Centre, Parkway and then returns to Sandon Park and Ride.

Children under 5 travel for free at all times 

Group fare (up to 2 adults and 3 children):

  • All day on weekdays: £5.00

  • Saturday: £3.50 (Saturday special rate will offer better value for 1 adult (£1.50) and 1 child (£1.00) = £2.50).

Short Hop

Short hop fare between is only valid between Anglia Ruskin University and City Centre: £1.00 only available on bus payable to the driver.

Park and Pedal

Bring your bike with you, leave your car at the site and cycle to your destination. Introductory offer of free parking till the end of August normal cost of Park and Pedal is £3 per day. We have bike racks should you chose to leave your bike at site overnight. We also offer Secure cycle lockers £20 per month, which includes free parking. Please visit Bikeaway to secure your locker.

Chelmer Valley Park and Ride is located on the A130 east of Essex Regiment Way, accessed from the Pratts Farm Roundabout.

Out of Hours exit

Cars can exit the site after 9pm automatically through the barrier system. In emergencies customers can contact Chelmsford City Council’s CCTV Control Centre on 01245 606 299  (24 hours)
